How we made it to 25 years as a company

What a ride it has been! Zoho is now a quarter-century corporation. We started our journey in 1996 as AdventNet Inc, with a focus on network management. In 2005, we announced a name change that represented the evolution of the company. We became Zoho Corp and designated three divisions of the company: Zoho.com, ManageEngine, and WebNMS. Over the years, their purposes remained largely the same, but the breadth and depth of each have expanded, in large part due to the people we've employed.

Today, we have nearly 100 employees who've been with us for over 20 years, and a large number of employees who are younger than the company itself. Additionally, 10% of Zoho employees are graduates of Zoho Schools, our in-house alternative to college education that has been around for 15 years. At Zoho, we embrace talent over credentials, and creating opportunities is an important step to help identify talents in under-served communities.

For this, we have set up hub offices in rural towns with smaller 'spokes' in neighbouring villages, and recruiting talent out of cities to bring their expertise and skills into local hubs to train local talent and support rural revival.

In today's context, more companies are embracing a distributed workforce. Going forward, remote tools will be an important asset to leverage for business success, in tandem with a company culture that puts people at its core, preparing them to be digital-ready.

Quarter Century

When we talk about being people-centric, it also points to the usability of our products, particularly how it facilitates work and improves the experience of users in remote locations. In these environments, the readiness to connect online via calls at anytime and anywhere is valuable.

Recently, we launched our business telephony system, Zoho Voice, to assign and make calls to connect with customers, teams, and other stakeholders, where it captures the collaborative aspects needed to establish business context before a call.

Likewise, understanding customers via a contact-less environment these days requires having a good sense of their interests and web experience, all while retrieving valuable online feedback to help businesses personalise their interaction with customers. Read more in our next segment.
