Zoho Buzz | Issue #4 | March 2020

At the end of January we hosted ZohoDay, our annual analyst meet-up where we bring together industry analysts to discuss all things Zoho.

Zoho day 2020

Throughout February, three main topics kept coming up in the wake of #ZohoDay2020:

  • Our commitment to privacy
  • Our technology stack
  • How Zoho's cloud can support rural communities

We wanted to dive into these topics a little more.

Blocking adjunct surveillance

At Zoho, we took a stand long ago against advertisements, something which you might have noticed. We're also taking a stand against "adjunct surveillance," or third-party tracking tools that collect user data. Something we were excited to announce at ZohoDay is that we're removing all third-party trackers from our website. That means when you're on our website and using our services, your data stays with us.

Not just business software

Something we're trying to be more vocal about is that we're not just a software company, we're a technology company. From the apps we offer to the databases they're stored on—and everything in between—we own and operate it all. We call this the full stack. We're able to do things like develop Zoho One because we've built all the related apps and services in-house.

Zoho Stack

Our decisions on pricing and privacy are made with consideration to the businesses we serve. Every company needs to do their work in the ways that work best. We strive to offer software that provides flexibility without breaking the bank. We don't want to be another capital expense to worry about. We maintain a private cloud and the related networking components to keep your costs consistent and affordable.

Supporting rural communities

The beauty of the cloud is that it enables teams and businesses to operate remotely. Our CEO, Sridhar Vembu, envisions a return of talent to smaller communities thanks to cloud software and remote teams. Sridhar equates the talent found in smaller communities to topsoil. When all of the topsoil moves toward cities, local opportunities for talent are eroded, leaving smaller communities increasingly barren.

One way we can prevent and remediate this erosion is by supporting smaller teams working together in rural areas. Sridhar sees a "cloud-enabled rural revival" taking place over the next 5-10 years. We've already enacted a company-wide work from home policy in light of COVID-19, and we're updating our tools to make remote work as easy as possible.

A round-up of major product updates

With optical character recognition (OCR) you can convert documents to editable text, e-sign, create workflows, annotate your scanned docs, and organize them using folders and tags.
